Lot 4308 HIGH QUALITY SCOTTISH REVIVAL ALL METAL FLINTLOCK
PISTOL BY J.D. DOUGALL. Cal. 50. S# NSN. Probably made around 1850-60 during the early years of Dougall's career this very nicely finished pistol measures 10-1/2" overall and has 6" blued damascus barrel which is octagonal at breech and muzzle and has round central section. Case hardened lock has flat plate fitted with serpentine cock, semi-waterproof pan, roller bridled frizzen with roller on feather spring that has teardrop finial. Silver plated non-ferrous metal frame has rams horn butt with thistle knob on pricker and is fitted with ball trigger without guard and belt hook on left side. Nicely turned steel ramrod is blued. Pistol is dramatically engraved with large sweeping shaded scrolls on frame which shows some Celtic knot work along barrel channel. Barrel is engraved with large scrolls at center and smaller scrolls at breech and muzzle. This engraving matches some sparce scrolls on lock with "J.D. Dougall Glasgow" along bottom. CONDITION: fine. Barrel retaining nearly 40% original blue and shows considerable flaking. Most original case hardening color is on lock. Frame retains nearly all silver plate that shows light cleaning on grip and fore piece. Bore is very fine. Mechanically good. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis. (01-27558/MGM).
