Lot 4301 ID'D WILLIAMSON SINGLE SHOT SLIDING BARREL
DERRINGER PISTOL WITH CASE. Cal. 41 RF. S# 6133. Bbl. 2 1/2". Single shot sliding bbl. derringer designed by David Williamson and produced by either Moore Patent Firearms Company or by National Arms Company. The flat top of the bbl. is engraved with a feathered arrow, with the S# marked on the underside. Bbl. rail is marked "GOOCH/ WINONA/ MISS", with consignor research indicating this to be Pvt. Henry Gooch Hammond of Company B, George's Regiment, 5th Mississippi Cavalry. Brass frame and trigger guard feature panels of scroll and decorative engraving. Sanded and refinished stock features a checkered wrist and butt, with additional hand carving present on either side. Right side of stock exhibits an unusual apparent extra screw hole. German silver blade front sight with hammer notched rear sight. Matching numbers are present on the frame (below bbl.) and bbl. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: custom wood display case featuring a red felt lined interior and a wood 5-rd. cartridge block. CONDITION: bbl. has faded to a dark mottled gray patina, exhibiting scattered spots/areas of light to mild pitting. Brass frame and trigger guard exhibit a pleasing mellow patina. Bore exhibits consistent moderate pitting, while retaining fair rifling throughout. Action is notably loose, but functions properly when cycled by hand. Stock is good as refinished, exhibiting a large crack on the right side and a small crack on the left, both stemming from the brass frame/forend cap, with a couple of small chips present on the butt.
