Lot 4293 UNSIGNED ENGLISH FLINTLOCK HORSE PISTOL.
Cal. 59 Smoothbore. NSN. Bbl. 9". Flintlock horse pistol produced by an unknown maker in England. Lockplate exhibits traces of an illegible maker mark. Top left side of bbl. is marked with English Crown/P and Crown/B proofs towards the breech. 1-piece plain wood stock with brass sideplate, oval wrist escutcheon, pommel cap, trigger guard, and ferrules. Finial on trigger guard features foliate leaf style engraving, with a floral motif engraved on the trigger guard bow. Sideplate exhibits an engraved wavy line pattern. Upper sideplate screw is a replacement and fitted with a steel washer. Complete with hardwood ramrod. Flint is absent. CONDITION: lock and bbl. exhibit a mottled gray patina, with scattered spots of light to mild pitting overall. Brass furniture exhibits a mellow patina. Proper manual mechanics. Stock exhibits scattered handling marks and impressions, with chipping present around the lockplate and bbl. channel, and with a gouge present on the left side towards the tip of the forearm. Stock exhibits scattered cracks along the bbl. channel, rear of the thimble, stock pins, and forward section of the butt below the trigger guard tang, with a repair also present on either side of the bbl. channel.
