Lot 4292 CASED PAIR OF A.W. SPIES SCREW BARREL BRASS FRAME

CENTER HAMMER PERCUSSION PISTOLS. Cal. 44 Smoothbore. NSN. Bbls. 2 1/2". Pair of brass frame center hammer percussion pistols mfg. by A.W. Spies of London, England. Left side of the frames feature foliate engraving with "AW SPIES" in a banner at the center, with additional foliate engraving and "LONDON" marked on the right. Underside of frames and bbls. exhibit British proofs, with 1 pistol marked "18" and the other "T9". 1-piece wood grips featuring checkered back straps and oval German silver escutcheons on the wrists. Screw bbl., center hammer, folding trigger actions. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: sanded and refinished wood display case featuring a green velour interior and containing an iron bullet mold, contemporary brass powder flask, key, and ball projectiles. CONDITION: brass frames exhibit a mellow patina with scattered handling marks. Bbls. retain large amounts of their blue finish, exhibiting some spots of mild pitting, with areas of moderate pitting present towards the muzzles. Bright bores, exhibiting scattered spots of moderate pitting. Sound locks and actions. Wood grips show scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, with the "T9" marked pistol exhibiting a light crack on the wrist that runs through the escutcheon plate.
