BARKER. Cal. 61. NSN. Bbl. 10 1/8". Brass bbl'd. flintlock pistol produced in Britain by Barker. Lockplate features decorative bordered engraving and a small foliate motif at the rear, with the center signed "BARKER". Brass bbl. features a faceted breech, transitioning to a rnd. contour at a single band towards the center, with a slight flare at the muzzle. Forward and rear edges of the faceted breech exhibit light foliate engraving, with a Crown/P and Crown/V proof marked on the left quarter flat. 1-piece plain wood stock with wire inlays at and around the bbl. tang area, features brass furniture consisting of trigger guard terminating in an acorn finial (trigger bow engraved with a floral motif), grotesque mask pommel cap, engraved sideplate, ramrod pipe, and thimble. Rear of wrist is inlaid with an unsigned oval brass escutcheon. Horn tipped hardwood ramrod. CONDITION: lock assembly exhibits a brown appearance, showing scattered spots of light surface oxidation and pitting. Brass bbl. and furniture have acquired a pleasing mellow patina, exhibiting scattered superficial handling marks. Proper manual mechanics. Stock exhibits scattered superficial marks and minor impressions overall, with a crack stemming from either side of the lockplate. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis. (01-27549/MLW).
