Lot 4279 THREE CIVIL WAR ERA CARTRIDGE BOXES.
1) Militia cartridge box with a "PMB" script plate on the front. An attached tag identifies this as the Portland Mechanic Blues of Portland, Maine. Interior has a wooden block with 16 drilled holes. Reverse has a white buff leather belt loop. Securing strap is present, but separated on one side. 2) US M1864 cartridge box with an embossed "US" in oval on the front. Box is complete with its original tin liners. Securing strap is intact as well as the two iron buckles at the base. 3) Militia cartridge box with a brass script "NG" for National Guard plate on the front. Interior has a four compartment tin liner. Reverse has two Civil War cuff size eagle "A" buttons to facilitate use with a cloth over the shoulder strap. Strap guide is present, but detached on the ends. Securing strap is present. CONDITION: all boxes show ample wear, but are generally complete and solid except as noted above. (02-26079/BF).
