Lot 4209 PRE CIVIL WAR MAINE MILITIA DRUM.
A classic example of a Maine militia drum in use from about 1830 to the dawn of the Civil War. The drum is approx. 16 1/4" diameter and 15 1/4" in height. The hoops are painted red as is normally seen and "MAINE" is painted adjacent to the top hoop. The drum body seam is connected with domed and flat brass tacks. The original ropes and tighteners are intact. The top skin is missing, but the bottom skin is present with a "4" painted on it. The remains of some of the snares are present. There is an unassociated harness belt attached to the drum. CONDITION: as stated, the top skin is missing. The drum appears to have suffered some water damage in the past that has not adversely affected the stability of the drum. There is no label on the interior. The ropes are virtually complete, but the tugs are quite dry and misshaped. The attached harness belt is also quite dry and flaky. (02-25379/BF). NON-GUN. $1,000-2,000.
