Lot 4199 LATE FEDERAL PERIOD US MILITIA OFFICER SWORD.
A good example of a late Federal period eagle head militia officer's sword measuring 33" overall with a 27 3/4" etched single fullered blade. The etching includes mostly foliate motifs with a large American eagle and a stand of American flags. Brass hilt with a simple unadorned guard and a drop quillon. Crude eagle head pommel with a cross hatched bone grip. Brass mounted leather scabbard with both ring and frog stud mountings. CONDITION: blade has a spotty light gray patina with light etching. The hilt is a bit misshaped and is somewhat loose. Grip is generally solid with a few tight age cracks. Scabbard is fairly solid with a flex point 8" up from the tip. The bottom mount/drag is missing. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis. (02-24697/BF). $500-750.
