Lot 4198 2 US M1840 NCO SWORDS & 1 US M1840 MUSICIAN SWORD.
1) A US M1840 NCO sword measuring 39 3/4 " overall with a plain single fullered blade measuring 32 1/2" with a barely visible "US" and inspectors marks. Solid brass hilt with plain guard, knuckle bow, and pommel. The ferule and the top of the knuckle bow are stamped "16" possibly for the 16th Regt of a union state. Brass simulated wire wrapped grip. Brass mounted leather scabbard. CONDITION: blade has factory polish mixed with light staining. Hilt shows light overall wear. Scabbard is solid except for a single clean break 9" up from the drag, likely easily repaired. 2) A US M1840 NCO sword measuring 38 3/4 " overall with a plain single fullered blade measuring 32 1/4". The blade is marked at the ricasso " Made by AMES MF'G CO. CHICOPEE MASS " & US T.K.L 1864 ". Solid brass hilt with plain guard (turned down), knuckle bow, and pommel. Brass simulated wire wrapped grip. Brass mounted leather partial scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray smooth patina with a couple of nicks. Hilt shows light overall wear. Scabbard retains the throat and 16" of the leather, the remainder is missing. 3) A US M1840 Musician's sword measuring 34 5/8 " overall with a plain single fullered blade measuring 28 1/4". The ricasso is unmarked. Solid brass hilt with plain guard, knuckle bow, and pommel. The center of the crossguard is engraved " 40 " possibly for the 40th Regt of a union state. Brass simulated wire wrapped grip. Brass mounted leather partial scabbard. CONDITION: blade has factory polish mixed with staining. Hilt shows light overall wear. Scabbard includes the throat and 22" of the leather. The rest is missing. (02-26064/BF). NON-GUN. $700-1,000.
