Lot 4197 TWO US. M1860 NAVAL CUTLASSES & SCABBARDS

Both cutlass measure approx. 32" with 26" blades. Brass closed cup hilt. Wire wrapped leather grip. Leather scabbards with copper rivets. 1) CONDITION: shows no markings on ricasso having a once heavily polished appearance mixing with light pitting & patina along blade. Hilt appears intact with a few large dents & mustard patina. Wire loose in a few spots with light cracking of leather. Scabbard has large tear near tip with cracking & flaking of finish. 2) Ricasso has traces of Ames mark on left side with 1862 date USN marking on right side. CONDITION: blade shows old cleaned gray appearance with prior pitting & scattered patina. hilt shows sm. dents & mustard patina. Wiring appears tight with spots of flaking leather finish. Scabbard appears intact with cracking & flaking of finish. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis. (02-24687/MD). $1,200-1,800.
