Lot 4196 RARE US M1832 REGULATION GENERAL OFFICER'S SWORD.

An exceptional example of the seldom seen US M1832 Officer's sword measuring 35 1/2 inches overall with a heavily etched 29" blade with a single central fuller. The super clear etching includes a large American eagle, "US" in a wreath, Liberty cap, American flags, crossed cannons, and numerous foliate motifs. Heavily gilded hilt with a boat style guard with pellets on the front edge and a straight cross guard with 5-pointed stars on the ends. The knuckle bow repeats the pellet embellishments and the melon shaped pommel is fluted at the base with a smooth rounded top. A squared lug tops the pommel and secures the tang. Striking solid silver grip with simulated wire wrap. The scabbard has 3 heavily gilded mounts With the throat having a "US" in wreath and a shell frog stud. The center mount features a majestic eagle grasping arrows and olive branches with a ribbon above. The drag / tip has beautiful foliate motifs as do the other two mounts. The leather body has been reinforced with a matching epoxy. CONDITION: the blade shows original factory polish with some minor scattered staining. The hilt exhibits light wear and retains nearly all of its original gilded finish. The scabbard mounts are crisp and also retain virtually all of their gilded finish. The leather body likely degraded over the last 190 years and has been stabilized / reinforced with an epoxy finish. (02-26065/BF). NON-GUN. $2,000-2,800.
