Lot 4164 "H. FAURE LE PAGE" RETAILED BELGIAN FAGNUS
MAQUAIRE DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER. Cal. 11mm. S# 9426. Bbl. 4 3/4". Fagnus Maquaire double action revolver mfg. in Belgium and retailed by H. Faure Le Page of Paris, France. The Fagnus Maquaire revolver closely resembles the French Model 1874 revolver, albeit with several notable improvements and external differences. The top flat of the octagonal bbl. is engraved "H Faure Le Page a Paris", with "Acier Fondu" (French: "Cast Steel") and the S# marked on the lower left quarter flat towards and at the breech. Rear face of cyl. exhibits 2 Belgian commercial proofs. Interior of the hinged frame sideplate is marked "C&D" within an oval, with research suggesting this to be the maker mark of either Clement & Dolmon or Colombier & Dumoulin. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, save for on the hammer and trigger, which are in-the-white. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips, featuring extensions of the checkering on the thin front and rear grip straps, as well as a lanyard swivel and ring on the butt. Thick dovetailed blade front sight with thinned upper edge and frame V-notched rear sight. CONDITION: metal components retain fair amounts of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear fading to gray patina, with scattered spots of light to mild surface oxidation and pitting present overall. Bright bore, exhibiting scattered spots and patches of light to mild pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics, with notably stiff hammer pull in SA mode. Grips show smoothing, as well as scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sound. PROVENANCE: From the Buckstix Collection. (01-28593/MLW). ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.
