Lot 4162 ATTRACTIVE ENGRAVED NJ. DESSARD PATENT DOUBLE

ACTION TOP BREAK REVOLVER. Cal. 9mm Rimfire. S# 3458. Bbl. 5". NJ. Dessard patent double action revolver. Left side of the bbl. is marked with a Crown/N proof (also present on side of cyl.) above "3458", followed by "NJ. DESSARD/ BREVETE" above "ACIER FONDU" (French: "CAST STEEL"). Front face of cyl. is stamped with a Crown/S proof, with a Belgian "E/ LG/ *" Liege proof marked on the side. Left side of frame is marked "LB" beneath the grip panel, with "+ B7" marked on the right. Sides of frame and top strap of the bbl. exhibit finely executed scrollwork breaking off in small sections along a double line border, which extends around the circumference of the rebated cyl. Grip straps and trigger guard bow feature interwoven line type engraving, with small sections of scrollwork. Frame, cyl., and bbl. exhibit a high polish blue finish, save for on the hammer, trigger, and several small parts, which are in-the-white. Frame features a distinct contour usually found on pinfire revolvers of the era, and is mounted with 2-piece checkered black hard rubber grips, featuring a lanyard swivel and loop on the butt. Interior of grips are hand etched with an arrow and "/", with the left panel also exhibiting a lightly etched "WK". Top strap of bbl. features a pointed rib. Dovetailed blade front sight with deeply grooved U-notch rear sight on rear of the top break bbl. CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their original high polish blue finish, showing light to mild edge wear, with areas of wear (predominately on the grip straps, trigger guard, as well as on the right side of the frame and bbl.) that are fading to pleasing gray and brown patinas. In-the-white parts show some scattered spots of age related discoloration. Bore is bright, exhibiting scattered spots of moderate pitting, while retaining good rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics in SA and DA modes. Grips show light to mild smoothing, as well as some superficial marks from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sound. A very attractive example of a Dessard patent revolver. (01-28563/MLW). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,800.
