Lot 4157 FINE CASED CIVIL WAR ERA LARGE BORE TRANTER

REVOLVER. Cal. 54 bore (~.45). S# 7601 T. Standard configuration, 6" octagonal unmarked barrel, integral notched rear sight, loading assembly marked "TRANTERS PATENT" attached to left side of frame which has scroll engraving en suite to frame, trigger guard, and butt cap, single trigger with spur. S# engraved on right side of frame "No. 7601 T", mounted with one piece checkered walnut grips. Revolver is housed in an original turquoise baize lined oak casing compartmented for revolver, Dixson powder flask, brass 54 bore "Adam's Patent" 2 cavity bullet mold, green label Fletcher cap tin. This was a popular revolver worldwide, many in this serial range have Southern agent marks, Hyde & Goodrich, New Orleans; Radcliffe, Columbia, SC; Guion, New Orleans are examples. S# 7993 is inscribed to Dabney Maury who would become Confederate general. CONDITION: revolver is fine overall, retaining 90% bright original blue finish on barrel & frame, cylinder is overall silver/gray patina. Casing is good overall with "LONDON ARMORY" label, accouterments are fair to good. Revolver is mechanically fine and works in both single & double action, bright rifled bore.
