Lot 4141 SCARCE CIVIL WAR ALLEN & WHEELOCK PERCUSSION ARMY
REVOLVER. Cal. 44. S# 104. Large frame revolver measuring 14" overall is in standard configuration, 7.5" octagonal to round barrel, "ALLEN & WHEELOCK" 2-line address & patent makings on left flat. 536 revolvers were purchased by US government but were never martially marked. This high quality revolver was rather expensive arm in its day and only 700 were made. CONDITION: very good overall, complete, original & matching. Metal is overall cleaned with mottled gray patina, traces of original blue in protected areas, scattering pitting especially at muzzle, markings crisp and all discerned. 2-piece walnut grips retain most of their original varnish with moderate edge wear.
