Lot 4140 RARE EARLY CIVIL WAR ALLEN & WHEELOCK "LIPFIRE"
ARMY REVOLVER. Cal. 44. S# 307. Large frame, 13.5" overall, 7.5" half octagon to round barrel, 6-shot cylinder with notches for cartridge lips at rear wall, made 1861-1862 and there are thought to be no more than 250 made, production ended due to patent infringement lawsuit brought by Smith & Wesson. Very similar to center hammer percussion army, that were purchased by US government in the Civil War and produced after this rare model. CONDITION: very good overall, thin blue retained on barrel, overall plum patina, crisp markings, grips retain most of their high polish varnish, mechanically fine, bright shiny rifled bore.
