Lot 4139 SCARCE MARTIAL CIVIL WAR PETTENGILL ARMY REVOLVER.

Cal. .44. S# 4591. This unique solid hammerless framed double action revolver was made 1862-1863, 2000 were contracted by US Ordnance Department, several hundred were issued to Michigan cavalry units. Standard configuration. Top of frame marked "PETTENGILLS / PATENT 1858" & "RAYMOND & ROBITAILLE / PATENTED 1858", 7.5" octagonal barrel, bottom of frame stamped "PATENTED / NOV 4, 1862", flared wood grips with "WW" cartouche (William Walter-inspector). CONDITION: very good overall, no original finish, cleaned gray/bright overall, good markings, "WW" inspection crisp on barrel, frame, and cylinder, 2-piece grips chipped and dented, but "WW" cartouche discernible on left.
