Lot 4119 LATE PRODUCTION REMINGTON MODEL 1861 ARMY U.S.

INSPECTION SA REVOLVER. Cal. 44. S# 14695 found on left inside of grip frame. Bbl. 8" octagon with Mortised cone front sight. Top flat is marked "PATENTED DEC. 17, 1861/ MANUFACTURED BY REMINGTONS' ILION. N.Y.". Very late production revolver with New Model Army features consisting of cyl. with safety stop notches and new style loading lever without channel cut along top edge. Frame, bbl., loading lever, cyl., and trigger guard have inspectors initials "S", "J", and "E" in various locations. Blue finish with brass trigger guard. 2-piece walnut grips. Left panel has illegible cartouche. Bottom of left grip panel has cut marks that may be initials "I V". Bottom of grip frame has hand scratched markings that appear to be indiscernible initials. CONDITION: bbl., frame, and cyl. have largely faded to a gray appearance showing small dents and spots of light pitting. Loading lever retains 60% blue showing spots of flaking and edge wear with clear "S" inspection mark on right side. Sanded and refinished grips have oil darkened appearance with small chips at grip frame, toe, and heel. Action shows wear and reluctance to hold at full cock. Cyl. does not rotate properly when hand cycled. Bore retains sound rifling showing scattered spots of pitting. (01-27343/DS). ANTIQUE. $1,000-1,500.
