Cal. .36. S# 28194. Standard configuration Colt model 1851 navy revolver, 7.5” octagonal barrel with one-line New York City address. Frame is hand engraved in reverse arc “COLTS PATENT” by Gustav Young shop during his heyday at Colt in 1853, full coverage engraving incorporates foliate scrolls terminating in petalled flower serpent’s head on either side of barrel housing. S#s are accompanied by a small punch dot which indicated extra polish for engraving. Original factory 1-piece smooth ivory grips. CONDITION: good to very good overall, all matching and complete other than unserialized wedge. This revolver is well worn from long honest use, front sight was replaced with inset dovetailed blade, grips have large chip on right inside toe. Mechanics need attention, cocks fine, cylinder does not advance every time. Good rifled bore. (01-28698/JS). ANTIQUE. $4,000-6,000.
