SINGLE ACTION PERCUSSION REVOLVER WITH CASE & ACCESSORIES. Cal. 31. S# 122869. Bbl. 3". 1849 Pocket Wells Fargo Model single action percussion revolver mfg. by Colt in 1856. Top flat of the octagonal bbl. is marked with Colt's single line address. Bbl. address has possibly been reapplied. Left side of the frame is marked "COLTS/ PATENT". Underside of trigger guard bow exhibits a spurious "A.H. FRANKLIN. CSA" inscription. Sides of frame, hammer, and bbl. feature professionally executed scroll engraving on punch dot backgrounds. Frame and hammer exhibit a finely reapplied case colored finish, with the steel cyl. and bbl. exhibiting a reapplied blue finish. Brass trigger guard and rear grip strap exhibit an original silver plated finish. Frame is mounted with a 1-piece sanded and revarnished wood grip. Brass cone type front sight with V-notch rear sight on hammer. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, cyl. base pin, cyl., bbl., bbl. wedge, trigger guard, and rear grip strap. Frame, trigger guard, and grip strap's S# is stamped above an "8". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: wood display case featuring a red velour interior, containing a brass Colt powder flask, original Colt bullet mold, as well as a small assortment of projectiles. CONDITION: frame and hammer retain virtually all of their vibrant reapplied case colored finish overall, with some light fading present on the top strap of the hammer. Blued parts are excellent, with the cyl. exhibiting scattered spots/small patches of mild to moderate pitting beneath the finish. Cyl. scene has faded in some areas, but otherwise remains mostly intact. Brass trigger guard retains good amounts of its original silver plated finish, showing some flaking overall, with the trigger guard bow and grip strap having virtually completely flaked, showing through to a pleasing mellow patina. Rear grip strap retains the majority of its original silver plated finish, appearing to have been cleaned at one time, showing some areas of tarnishing. Relatively bright bore, exhibiting patches of mild to moderate pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics, albeit hammer pull is stiff. Grip shows a few marks and impressions beneath the finish, but otherwise remains sound. Display case is very good overall. (01-26698/MLW). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
