Cal. 45-70. S# 12417. Bbl. 24". Nice example of a 1st Model Winchester Hotchkiss carbine. Ladder rear sight graduated to 1,000 yards. Blade front sight. Receiver markings on left rail include "WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. / patent dates, the latest being 1877". Straight bolt handle. Unmarked walnut stock equipped w/ saddle ring on left side. Solid bbl. band retained by spring. Carbine style buttplate. Safety & mag. cutoff on right side. CONDITION: stock has moderate wear & handling marks scattered throughout w/ original finish. Notable loss of wood on both sides of forend behind bbl. band. Blued metal turning gray & patina w/ light wear & handling marks. Bbl. band is notably gray. Bright bolt turning gray & patina.
