Lot 3527 BLAKE ROTARY MAGAZINE BOLT ACTION RIFLE.

Cal. 30 Blake (original chambering). NSN. Bbl 30" tapered round. Bead front sight with adjustable bolt mounted peep sight. Unusual bolt action rifle with four front locking lugs that cocks on opening. It is fed by a 7 round aluminum rotary magazine loaded through a bottom mounted trapdoor. The 30 Blake cartridge is a rimless version of a 30-40 Krag. The Blake rifle competed in the 1892 US Rifle Trials which adopted the Krag-Jorgenson design. This rifle has apparently added gold Winchester on the top of the breech with Winchester Repeating Arms Co address on the left side. Bbl has added caliber marking "30 US Army". Lower tang is marked with a gold "7". The bottom loading door is marked "BLAKE" over "Patent July 26 '98". Trapdoor is ornamented with a swirl of scroll engraving and a circular scene with a running whitetail buck similar engraving highlights are found on the trigger guard bow. Walnut forearm and an s-curved pistol grip walnut stock with grooved steel buttplate and borderless hand checkering. Commercial production of the Blake rifle ended in 1909 with less than 1,000 produced. CONDITION: 70% lightly worn blue. Stocks have worn finish with numerous scratches and marks. Sound action.
