Lot 3444 38-55 CONVERTED JM MARLIN BALLARD SINGLE SHOT

RIFLE. Cal. 38-55 (originally 32-40). S# 24850. J.B." stamp on barrel & receiver appears to be the converter's stamp from 32-40 Ballard rifle to 38-55. Oct. barrel cut down to 24.25". New dovetail cut with vintage blade front sight along with original elevator rear sight. Ballard's patent single shot action with 2 open holes for sight. Walnut stock set w/ hobbyist checkering on forearm & crescent buttplate. CONDITION: good blue on barrel in protected areas with balance being a mixed of brown patina & fair faded blue showing series of deep marks & scratches. Receiver has gray/brown patina appearance. Forearm has worn appearance with large chip on left side & large crack right side. Buttstock has large cracks through wrist & numerous marks. Very good rifling. PROVENANCE: Estate of Groves Herrick.
