SHOT RIFLE. CAL. 38-50 (marked on bottom bbl. flat). S#. 7977. Bbl. 32" octagon to round measuring 1" at the muzzle. Vernier tang sight with a wind gauge spirit level front sight. Case colored side lever operated falling block action. Double set triggers. Forend and round knob pistol grip cheekpiece stock of fine walnut. Features include nickel finished forend cap and Swiss Scheutzen style buttplate along with fine hand checkering. Estimated quantity of less than 1,000 were mfg. 1883-1907. The 38-50 cartridge was not popular, it offered no performance difference over the 38-55 Winchester introduced in 1884. Weight; 11 lbs., 1.6 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESORIES: rifle is housed in a modern foam lined hardcase. CONDITION: over 80% lightly faded bbl. blue showing some handling marks. The left side of the action retains some nicely visible case colors while other receiver areas have largely faded to gray. Stocks have lightly worn original finish and very good checkering showing some scratches & handling marks. Generally bright bore has very good rifling. (01-28039/DS). ANTIQUE. $6,000-9,000.
