ENGRAVED CUSTOM 3RD GEN SAA REVOLVER TO TOMBSTONE CITY MARSHAL MAX K. HURLBUT. Cal. 45 Colt. S# TMO-1. Bbl. 5 1/2" with blade front sight. This fantastic specimen was custom ordered by "The Vagabond Policeman", Max K. Hurlbut and shipped to the long out of business "Hole-in-the Wall Gun Shop" on the anniversary of the "Gunfight at the OK Corral". Hurlbut was a former City Marshal in Tombstone, AZ, His name is engraved on the backstrap "Max K. Hurlbut" with his position engraved as the barrel address "CITY MARSHAL, TOMBSTONE, AT". Smooth white grip is custom factory inlaid with sterling silver Tombstone, AZ Marshal badge. Lanyard ring is factory installed in butt. Revolver bears one-of-kind commemorative S# "TMO-1" (Tombstone Marshal's Office-1). Per included letter from Hurlbut to consignor, this revolver was carried by him on ceremonial occasions. Hurlbut was a long time globe trotting veteran of multiple law enforcement agencies including the LAPD, Kodiak Police Dept, Whittier Alaska Marshal's office, Tombstone Arizona Marshal's Office as well as his time in the Aleutian Islands. His autobiography "THE VAGABOND POLICEMAN" details many of his exploits. This full nickel plated revolver features extraordinarily fine, tightly wound full coverage Master-Class Factory "D" coverage scroll engraving over a meticulously laid fine punch dot background with straight line & wavy borders. Grip frame is signed by Colt Master Engraver, George Spring. Original grip frame & trigger guard frame have original S#s X'd out with matching "TMO-1" applied to each. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: correspondence from Hurlbut listing this revolver's history & use as well as a hand written note to consignor confirming included Marshal's badge was one used by Hurlbut. Pictures of Hurlbut from his time in serving in Tombstone. CONDITION: overall, revolver is near excellent, retaining 98% original nickel finish. There is one pin head sized spot of flaked nickel on muzzle as well as on left rear grips frame screw head. There are some powder stains on front of cyl. confirming the fact stated in Hurlbut's letter that he "fired this revolver 12 times (to be sure of it's function & accuracy)".
