GOLD PLATED COLT SECOND GEN SAA REVOLVER. Cal. 45 Colt. S# NRA2932. Bbl. 5 1/2" with blade front sight. This wonderful revolver, which started out life as an NRA Centennial custom upgraded by FEGA Master Engraver, founding member and past President Ben Shostle in 1986. Well known in the contemporary engraving world, Shostle's engraving style is known for its deep relief cuts which create an unparalleled level of shading and contrast. Frame, barrel. trigger guard bow, backstrap and cylinder feature 2/3 coverage foliate scroll engraving over over deep relief finely stippled background accented by Nimschke style sunbursts. Breech & muzzle end of bbl. engraved with double straight line beaded bands. Rear of cyl flutes embellished with racheted relief cuts on contour. Feathered band engraved at rear of cyl. and surrounded by double straight lines. Screws, triger, ejector rod head & cyl pin finished in Royal blue. Lower right of bears engraver's signature "SHOSTLE". Metal is finished in a full coverage gold plating. Revolver stocked with fancy white 1 piece grip; each side bears relief cut Rampant Colt on globe. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Engraving certificate of authenticity signed by Ben Shostle & dated 10/10/86. Red velvet shadowlined walnut display case with white handled screwdriver and brush. CONDITION: metal surfaces retain 95% of their delicate gold plating with areas of thinning on trigger guard frame, ejector housing, front strap and some sharp edges. Grip and bore near excellent. This piece stands as a perfect example of the skill and effort Shostle placed in his craft and would be a fantastic addition to any engraved firearms collection, done by one of the great contemporary engravers of our time.
