ACTION REVOLVER WITH FACTORY LETTER. Cal. 45 Colt. S# 49448. Bbl. 5 1/2". Model 1878 double action revolver mfg. by Colt in 1903. Left side of the bbl. is marked "45 COLT." towards the breech, with Colt's single line address marked across the top. Left side of the frame is marked with the encircled Rampant Colt logo. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, with the trigger exhibiting a nitre blue finish. Sides of hammer are polished in-the-white. Frame is mounted with 2-piece Colt checkered brown hard rubber grips. Lanyard swivel on butt has been ground down. Standard fixed blade front sight and frame notched rear sight. Cyl. matches the frame via "448", with the frame and loading gate matching via assembly # "115". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Colt factory letter stating: "Serial Number: 49448/ Caliber: .45/c/ Barrel Length: 5 1/2"/ Finish: Blue/ Type of Stocks: Not Listed/ Shipped To: Pacific Hardware & Steel Company/ Address: San Francisco, California/ Date of Shipment: September 23, 1903/ Number of Same Type Guns in Shipment: 2". CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning fading to gray and brown patinas, with scattered patches of moderate pitting present overall. Grip straps have faded to a dark mottled gray patina. Sides of hammer exhibit some pitting and areas of age related discoloration. Very bright bore, exhibiting some scattered spots of light to mild pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Action is very stiff and occasionally rotates the cyl. base pin, but otherwise functions appropriately.
