Lot 3385 VERY NICE NICKEL PLATED COLT MODEL 1878 FRONTIER

SIX SHOOTER DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER. Cal. 44-40. S# 40119. Bbl. 7 1/2". Model 1878 Frontier Six Shooter double action revolver mfg. by Colt in 1898. Left side of the bbl. is marked "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER", with Colt's single line address marked across the top, and "44" stamped on the underside towards the breech. Left side of the frame is marked with the encircled Rampant Colt logo. Metal components exhibit a nickel plated finish overall, with screws, top strap of hammer, and the trigger exhibiting a nitre blue finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece Colt checkered brown hard rubber grips, featuring a lanyard swivel and ring on the butt. Standard blade front sight and frame notched rear sight. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame and cyl. Matching assembly # "72" is present on the frame (beneath the left grip panel) and on the loading gate. Grips are unnumbered, with the left grip exhibiting a hand inscribed "AWV/ 48" on the interior of the panel. CONDITION: metal components retain the vast majority of their original nickel plated finish, showing some scattered spots and small patches of light flaking overall. Nickel plating on butt section of frame has acquired a cloudy appearance. Nitre blue parts retain good amounts of their original finish in protected areas, with contact points having worn to a gray patina. Very bright bore, exhibiting scattered spots of light pitting and some small patches of mild pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics, with tight lock up. Grips are very good overall, showing light wear, with few minor superficial handling marks present overall. An especially attractive nickel plated Colt Model 1878 Frontier Six Shooter.
