Lot 3381 EARLY & ATTRACTIVE ETCHED PANEL COLT MODEL 1878
FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER. Cal. 44-40. S# 8452. Bbl. 7 1/2". Mfg. in 1882. Left side of the bbl. exhibits an acid etched "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" panel, with Colt's single line address marked across the top. Left side of the forward trigger guard web is marked "44.C.F.", with "44" on the underside of the bbl. Metal components exhibit a nickel plated finish, with the trigger, cyl., base pin, ejector rod, and frame screws exhibiting a nitre blue finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece Colt checkered brown hard rubber grips, and features a lanyard swivel and ring on the butt. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame and cyl. Grips are matching via the full S#, which is handwritten on the interior of the panels. Matching assembly # "616" is present on the frame and loading gate. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original factory nickel finish, showing scattered spots and a few areas/patches (predominately on left side of bbl. and grip straps) of wear showing through to dark surface oxidation, as well as some areas of striations from prior cleaning. Nitre blue parts retain large amounts of their original nitre blue finish, with some spots of light surface oxidation, and with frame screws having fading to a mostly gray patina. Mirror bore exhibiting some very light pitting and a patch of light pitting towards the muzzle, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips are very good, with light smoothing and some superficial handling marks. An attractive, antique Colt Model 1878 Frontier Frontier Six Shooter.
