FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER SHERIFF'S MODEL REVOLVER. EX STAGECOACH MUSEUM COLLECTION. Cal. 44-40. S# 8803. Bbl. 3 1/2" ejectorless with blade front sight. According to "COLT'S DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER MODEL OF 1878" by Don WIlkerson on page 79 that of the 647 Sheriff's models produced, only 65 were mfg. with nickel finish and a 3 1/2" bbl. Mfg. 1882 with full nickel finish and nitre blued screws, cyl. pin & cyl. pin release. 2 Piece checkered hard rubber Rampant Colt grips. Left side of bbl. has acid etched panel "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER". Front left of trigger guard box marked "44 CF". Revolver formerly on display in the Stagecoach Museum item # 479 and is pictured in the catalog on pages 163 & 169. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: brass Stagecoach collection tag numbered "479". hinged, compartmentalized walnut case lined with burgundy velour. Case contains cartridge block holding 12 rds., reproduction Winchester Metallic Cartridge box, 6 Colt Firearms Factory guard buttons, oil bottle, sterling silver Colt watch fob, compass, pocket knife, cleaning rod, screw driver tool & repro. "DEPUTY STATE PROHIBITION COMMISSIONER" badge. Lid of case has repro. Stagecoach Museum label. Colt factory letter stating the following: "Serial Number: 8803 / Caliber: .44/c / Barrel Length: 3 1/2" / Finish: Nickel / Type of Stocks: Rubber / Shipped To: Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Company / Address: Chicago, Illinois / Date of Shipment: July 12, 1882 / Number of Same Type Guns in Shipment: 6". CONDITION: metal parts retain 30% original flaked nickel with balance of metal faded to gray displaying scattered light to moderate cleaned pitting & light oxidation. Etched panel is very good and clearly legible. Grips are lightly worn and have browned with age. fair bore is frosted with spots of light pitting & strong rifling.
