SIX SHOOTER REVOLVER. Cal. 44-40. S# 337981. Bbl. 5 1/2". Single Action Army Frontier Six Shooter revolver mfg. by Colt in 1919. Left side of the bbl. is marked "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER .44-40", with Colt's single line address marked across the top. Left side of the frame is marked with Colt's 2-line patent information, followed by the Rampant Colt logo. Frame, loading gate, and hammer exhibit a case colored finish, with remaining metal components exhibiting a blue finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece Colt checkered black hard rubber grips. Standard SAA pattern blade front sight and frame notched rear sight. Matching numbers are present on the frame, trigger guard, and rear grip strap. Cyl. is matching via "81". Grips are non-matching. CONDITION: frame, loading gate, and hammer retain fair amounts of their original case colored finish, with areas of wear and fading that have turned to a mottled gray patina. Sides of hammer retain mostly strong case coloring. Blued parts retain the majority of their original finish, showing some spots/areas of light to mild wear and thinning, scattered superficial handling marks, as well as some scattered spots of light pitting. Cyl. bluing has dulled, showing scattered spots of light surface oxidation. Grip strap's bluing has dulled in contact areas. Bright bore, exhibiting scattered spots and patches of light pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics with tight lock up. Grips show some scattered superficial handling marks, with some chipping and 2 repaired chips present on the butt of the left panel. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of John "Jack" Dhooghe.
