Colt SAA revolvers chambered in 38 W.C.F. were produced in a much smaller quantity that the standard 45 Colt (50,520 vs 158,885). This example was mfg 1903 and has no verified "VP" mark on the trigger guard, meaning it was not guaranteed for smokeless loads. Matching numbers on frame, trigger guard frame & butt. Blued bbl., ejector housing, 6 shot fluted cy. & grip frame. Case hardened frame & hammer. Nitre blued screws & trigger. 2 Piece checkered hard rubber Rampant Colt grips. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Colt factory letter stating the following: "Serial Number: 240107 / Caliber: .38/40 / Barrel Length: 4 3/4" / Finish: Blue / Type of stocks: Not Listed / Shipped To: George Tritch Hardware company / Address: Denver, Colorado / Date of Shipment: March 23, 1903 / Number of Same Type Guns in Shipment: 12". CONDITION: blued metal parts retain 75-80% original finish with areas of mild thinning, high edge wear, moderate cyl. drag line and slight freckling. Case hardened parts retain 75-80% vivid, original case colors with light fading and areas of peppery oxidation. Screw heads are all crisp with exception of light screw slot distortion on butt screw. Very good grips. Bright, shiny bore with crisp rifling. Mechanically excellent, all 4 clicks present. A very nice example of a Western shipped turn of the Century mfg. SAA. (25-5778/BH).
