He was known to his friends as Jake "Twitchy" Meachum. Most everyone just called him "Twitchy" or spoke to him as Twitchy Meachum. He got the nick-name "Twitchy" because ever since he was a young boy, he had a constant twitch in his his left eye, and a sporadic twitch in his right eye. Having any conversation with him was always a struggle because his constantly twitching eyes were a distraction.". This MUST READ letter goes on to tell of the Meachum family's travels from Springfield, Illinois to Dallas, Texas. Letter goes into detail regarding events such as Twitchy's purchase of this revolver from Simmons Hardware in 1884, the renegade attack on Meachum's family on June 13, 1884, avenging the deaths of his parents by aforementioned renegades and even the affixment of the amber pin found on the right side of the grip which is explained as being an earring belonging to one of the renegades followed by: "He told my grandfather he did this to remind himself of the justice that the Colt handed out".
