Lot 3289 CUSTOM ENGRAVED U.S. COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY

REVOLVER. Cal. 22. S# 55061. Bbl. 5 1/2". Single Action Army revolver originally mfg. by Colt under contract for the U.S. Government. Bbl. is unmarked. Left side of the black powder frame retains traces of Colt's original 3-line patent information. Underside of frame is stamped with a partially legible "D.F.C." inspector proof. Frame features near full coverage scrollwork on a punch dot background, which extends to the top half of the bbl., top and right side of the ejector rod housing, as well as the receiver. Complimentary sections of scrollwork are present on the trigger guard and rear grip strap. Frame, bbl., trigger guard, and rear grip strap exhibit a nickel plated finish, with the cyl., trigger, hammer, ejector rod housing & bullseye head, as well as the frame screws exhibiting a gold tinged color finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece plain aftermarket pearl grips. Square profile blade front sight with square frame notched rear sight. Matching numbers are present on the frame, trigger guard, and rear grip strap, with the trigger guard and grip straps S# being mostly illegible. Cyl. and bbl. are contemporary .22 RF replacements. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: contemporary wood display case featuring a red felt lined interior and a 6-rd. cartridge block. CONDITION: metal components retain virtually all of their reapplied finishes, showing scattered spots of mild pitting beneath the finish. Cyl. shows scattered small spots of bubbling and flaking. Grips straps show consistent mild to moderate pitting beneath the grip panels. Bright bore, exhibiting consistent light pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics, although the first click is absent. Grips show scattered superficial marks and scratches, but otherwise remain sound. Display case is very good overall. (01-26697/MLW).
