Lot 3279A RARE JOHNSON SUB-INSPECTED U.S. COLT SINGLE ACTION
ARMY CAVALARY MODEL REVOLVER. Cal. 45 Colt. S# 17529. Bbl. 7 1/2". Single Action Army Cavalry Model mfg. by Colt in 1895 under contract for the U.S. government. Top of the bbl. is marked with Colt's single line address between 2 crosses. Left side of the frame is marked with Colt's 2-line patent information, followed by "U.S.". Bbl., trigger guard, and cyl. exhibit a "J" (Johnson) sub-inspection proof. Frame is mounted with a 1-piece plain wood grip, marked with an illegible boxed cartouche on the left side. Standard SAA pattern blade front sight and frame notched rear sight. Bullseye ejector rod head. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, trigger guard, rear grip strap, cyl., and bbl. CONDITION: frame, hammer, and loading gate retain traces of their original case colored finish in protected areas, with the balance having faded to a gray patina, exhibiting some light surface oxidation and pitting, as well as some spots of age related discoloration. Blued parts have mostly faded to a gray and/or gray/brown patina, showing some spots of pitting, scattered areas of age related discoloration, and some superficial handling marks overall. Bright bore, exhibiting some scattered spots and small patches of mild to moderate pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics with tight action. Grip shows scattered marks and impressions (most notably on the right side of the butt), but otherwise remains sound. PROVENANCE: The Esteemed Norm Greenberg Collection. (01-27666/MLW).
