Cal. 348 WIN. S# 188. Mfg 1935. Bbl. 20: Winchester proof steel with hooded brass bead front sight dovetailed on a stippled, plugged rear dovetail. "-Winchester/ProofSteel - Model 71 - Winchester / -Trademark- 348 W.C.F.-" & "Made in U.S.A. Winchester Repeating arms Co. / -New Haven. Conn -" bbl markings. Winchester. No.98 bolt peep sight. Deluxe checkered walnut pistol grip stock set with checkered steel shotgun butt plate and Winchester Repeating Arms hard rubber pistol grip cap. Factory butt and nosecap swivel eyes. CONDITION: overall very fine as professionally restored. The bbl. is shortened from 26" rifle length to 20" carbine length. Bbl and receiver have very fine metal finish with only a couple of faint handling marks present. The markings including proofs remain crisp with the restorer taking care not to destroy the bbl marks during polishing. The case coloring on the lever is vibrant and shows little signs on use after restoration. Stock set has been lightley sanded with some scattered moderate scratches and light handling marks. Good original buttplate bluing with 85% coverage. An attractive restoration with a slightly duller blue tone than factory examples. (25-1330/ZAL). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
