Lot 3240 NICK KUSMIT CUSTOM ENGRAVED WINCHESTER MODEL 64

LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 30 WCF. S# 1147835. Bbl. 20". Model 64 lever action rifle mfg. by Winchester in 1938. Left side of the bbl. is marked with the model and cal. designations, with Winchester's mfg. information marked on the right. Upper receiver tang is marked with the Winchester trademark logo above "-TRADE MARK-/ MADE IN U.S.A." markings, which have been partially enhanced via hand engraving of some of the letters. Sides of receiver feature custom engraving by Nick Kusmit consisting of heart shaped borders and panels of scrollwork at the center on punch dot backgrounds. Left side of the receiver is engraved with a vignette scene of an elk (signed "NK" at bottom right of portrait), with a vignette scene of a bear engraved on the right. Complimentary scrollwork extends to the top of the receiver, top of the bolt, sides of the lever, as well as on the upper receiver tang. Sides of forearm nose cap feature engraved floral motifs around the screw slots, with light scrollwork on finely stippled backgrounds. Metal components exhibit a reapplied blue finish overall. High grade wood forearm and brown hard rubber capped pistol grip buttstock with checkered brown hard rubber Winchester buttplate. Wood furniture has been sanded and refinished at one time, with the checkering either having been significantly enhanced or added. Left side of lower receiver tang is marked with assembly # "5007", followed by wood grade marking "XXX" and "RB". Assembly # "5007" is present in the top tang channel of the stock. Ramped, hooded, and brass beaded blade front sight with dovetailed U-notch rear sight. CONDITION: metal components retain virtually all of their reapplied blue finish overall, exhibiting some scattered spots of light surface oxidation. Interior of lever loop shows some light to mild wear that is fading to brown patina. Near mirror bore, exhibiting what appears to be a few areas of very light pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Wood furniture shows some superficial marks and impressions from handling and storage, with scattered mildew spots. Left side of buttstock exhibits a large area of apparent finish loss, with the buttstock fit being notably poor at the upper receiver tang. (25-1347/MLW). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
