Lot 3227 FIRST YEAR OF PRODUCTION WINCHESTER MODEL 1905

SELF-LOADING RIFLE WITH UNIQUE CUSTOM CASE. Cal. 35 SLR. S# 3901. Bbl. 22". Model 1905 Self-Loading rifle mfg. by Winchester in 1905 (first year of Model 1905 production). Left side of the bbl. is marked with Winchester's mfg. and patent information, followed by the cal. designation, with a "P" within an oval proof and standard Winchester "W/ P" proof marked at the breech. Left side of the receiver is stamped with a "V" towards the chamber area. Upper receiver tang is marked "MOD. 1905/ WINCHESTER/ TRADE MARK".Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall. Plain wood forearm and straight grip stock with black hard rubber buttplate. Wood furniture has been lightly sanded and refinished. Dovetailed blade front sight (bead absent) with dovetailed U-notch rear sight. Matching S# "3901" is present on the upper and lower assemblies. MAGS: 1 5-rd. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: custom made wood transit case featuring brass and steel studs around the circumference of the lid and body. Lid is fitted with a brass plaque that reads "E.P. CARLSEN/ 3948. SO.5.TH.PL./ MILW.7.WIS.". Plain wood case interior fitted for the rifle, as well as 2 boxes of ammunition. Case contains 2 full 50-rd. boxes (100-rds. total) of 35 Winchester Self-Loading ammunition. CONDITION: receiver, lower assembly, and forend cap have faded to a gray/brown patina, exhibiting some areas of light pitting overall (primarily on the receiver). Bbl. retains large amounts of its original blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning fading to gray patina, as well as some scattered spots of light surface oxidation and pitting. Very bright bore, exhibiting some light pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Wood furniture shows scattered marks and some small impressions from handling and storage, with the forearm exhibiting a crack on the left side that stems from the receiver. Buttplate is heavily worn, with traces of the checkering and Winchester logo remaining. Case shows scattered marks from handling and storage, as well as some cracking, but otherwise remains sound.
