Lot 3216 WINCHESTER 1895 COLORADO STATE PENITENTIARY MARKED
SADDLE RING CARBINE. Cal. 30 Army (30-40 Krag). S# 424012. bbl. 22" carbine style. pinned blade front with carbine leaf rear sight. Blue finish. Action has saddle ring on the left side. Finger groove forend, hand guard & straight grip walnut stock with carbine steel trapdoor buttplate. Butt plate is stamped "C.S.P." on the face with "31." at the peak. S# indicates 1930 mfg. UNATTACHED ACCESORIES: letter dated August 2, 1960 from Colorado State Penitentiary, Business Manager, J. C. Cowperthwaite stating: "In Reply to your letter of July 19 to the Warden regarding C. S. P. Gun #31. This gun was sold to a Officer of this institution, but we have no record as to the officer's name who purchased it. I am sorry that we can give no additional information on the gun but we have no way knowing who the purchaser was." CONDITION: the bbl. retains over 80% blue showing handling marks & small spots of pitting. The action has over 60% blue showing areas of flaking with scratches & spots of pitting. Left side of the receiver has 2 added holes with plug screws for receiver sight installation. Original wood finish shows scattered scratches & marks. Sound mechanics. Bright near excellent bore.
