Lot 3198 RARE WINCHESTER MODEL 1894 LEVER ACTION SHORT

RIFLE. Cal. 30 WCF. S# 403898. Bbl. 20". Model 1894 lever action short rifle mfg. by Winchester in 1907. Left quarter flat of the octagonal bbl. is marked with Winchester's mfg. and patent information, with the cal. designation marked towards the breech. Upper receiver tang is marked "MODEL 1894/ -WINCHESTER-/ TRADEMARK". Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, save for on the hammer and lever, which exhibit a case colored finish. Plain wood forearm and straight grip stock with crescent steel buttplate. Dovetailed blade front sight with dovetailed U-notch rear sight. Full length mag. tube. CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their original factory blue finish, showing areas of wear and thinning that are fading to gray and brown patinas (most notably on carry area of receiver), light to mild edge wear, scattered scratches and superficial handling marks, as well as scattered spots of light to mild surface oxidation overall. Hammer and lever retain traces of their original case colored finish in protected areas. Buttplate has been cleaned, exhibiting scattered spots of dark oxidation and pitting. Dark bore, exhibiting consistent mild to moderate pitting, while retaining good, albeit worn rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Wood furniture shows numerous scattered superficial marks and impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sound. (25-1336/MLW). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
