Lot 3172 UNITED FILM WINCHESTER MODEL 1892 LEVER ACTION

RIFLE. Cal. 44 WCF. S# 28923. Bbl. 20". Model 1892 lever action rifle mfg. by Winchester in 1893 (second year of production). Top flat of the octagonal bbl. is marked with Winchester's mfg. information, with the cal. designation marked towards the breech. Upper receiver tang is marked "MODEL 1892/ -WINCHESTER-" above patent information. Left side of the receiver is marked with an apparent "F" within a "U" (indicating movie rental or ownership), followed by "5". Plain wood forearm and straight grip modified later production straight grip stock featuring a flat checkered steel buttplate. Buttstock exhibits a section of removed wood on either side of the wrist for proper fitting. Marbles No. 5 blade front sight (upper half absent) with dovetailed and screwed in flip-up U-notch rear sight. CONDITION: metal components retain traces of their original blue finish, with the balance having faded to a mottled gray patina, exhibiting scattered scratches and marks, scattered spots/patches of surface oxidation, as well as consistent light pitting overall. Sides of receiver exhibit areas of discoloration towards the rear from apparent heat treatment. Dark bore, exhibiting moderate pitting and an apparent bulge towards the muzzle, while retaining trace to fair rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Forearm exhibits numerous marks, impressions, chips, and small gouges, with a full length crack on the underside. Buttstock shows scattered handling marks and impressions, as well as areas of flaking to the varnish, with a crack present on the right side of the wrist. PROVENANCE: From the PMRB Collection.
