ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 32-40. S# 190688. Mfg. 1903. Bbl. 24" part rd - oct. with Lyman bead front sight (bead missing), elevator adjustable sporting rear sight. "Manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. / New Haven. Conn. U.S.A. Patented August 21. 1894." Marked on the top flat. Button mag. Plain trigger. Lyman No.1 2nd variation tang sight. Lower receiver tang marked "17331 CH". Plain pistol grip walnut stock set with replacement blued crescent smooth buttplate & Winchester Repeating Arms hard rubber pistol grip cap. The butt is marked "94 / 17331" under the buttplate. CONDITION: overall good. Bbl has thinning original blue with approx 70% coverage showing some high edge wear, a few dings at the muzzle, and some scattered light freckled oxidation. Receiver has thinning finish in the carry areas with exposed areas turning to a brown patina with some evidence of old touch up bluing. The original receiver blue has approx 70% coverage with some scattered light handling marks and light scratches. The stock set has been sanded and refinished and the replacement buttplate is not a great fit. Nose cap has thinning finish with the balance showing a brown patina. Lever has traces of case coloring in the protected areas. Loading gate retains 30% fire blue. Buttplate has 95% reblued finish. Bore shows light frosting and some scattered pitting with distinct rifling. (25-1311/ZAL). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
