Cal. 357 Mag. S#. 856287. Mfg. 1919. Bbl. 24" Oct. with hooded beaded post front sight, sporting adjustable elevator rear sight and foliate scroll engraving with stippled background that terminates with two bands at the breech end. The rifle is rebored and rechambered; the caliber has been remarked within a silver panel on the left top facet of the octagonal bbl. The receiver is decorated with an embossed silver buck in stride that is an attractive contrast to the blued game scene panel that encircles it on its left side. The reverse carries a swooping embossed silver eagle that stands out from its blue mountain scene panel. The balance of both sides of the receiver have a well executed foliate scroll with stippled background and zig zag border engraving. The top tang has an added aftermarket peep sight that is decorated with a simple line inlay that matches the bands located on the lever, nosecap and breech end of the bbl. The nicely figured straight grip walnut stock set has custom wrap around checkering with an engraved case colored smooth steel crescent buttplate. CONDITION: overall very fine as restored at the time of upgrade with 98% blued finish coverage showing only a few minor handling marks; light scratches directly behind front sight. Sharp checkering and markings. The embossed animals are well executed and are an attractive addition to this rifle. The stock set is very fine with only scattered mild handling marks. Bright bore with strong rifling. Hammer has been re-casehardened and safety notch does not hold properly. 357 mag. cartridges failed to cycle into chamber; 38 spl. cartridges cycled properly. Appears that slight radius at bottom mouth of chamber would correct the issues. (25-1293/ZAL). CURIO. $1,000-2,000.
