SHORT RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. S# 77362. Bbl. 24" octagon. Rocky Mountain front sight with graduated leaf rear sight. Full length mag. Original finish was blue and case colored. Walnut forearm and pistol grip stock with ebony insert of XX fancy walnut with Style I checkering and crescent steel buttplate. Left inside of lower tang is marked with assembly # "47" followed by "XX" wood grade marking. Mfg. in 1893. CONDITION: refinished rifle, bbl. and mag. tube retain 98% brightly polished reblued finish showing some remaining marks. Action and fittings show 90% restored case colors. Sanded and refinished wood has recut checkering. Top tang area of stock has added wood repairs. Sound action. Dark pitted bore retains intact rifling. (01-28198/DS). ANTIQUE. $5,000-8,000.
