Lot 3099 RARE HAWAII NATIONAL GUARD WINCHESTER 3RD MODEL

1876 LEVER ACTION MUSKET. Cal. 45-75. S#. 28785. Bbl. 32". Fixed front with replacement fixed V-notch rear sight. Tubular mag in forend. Band fastened forend has a rare partially visible wiping rod mounted along the left side. The bayonet lug is on the right side of the forend cap. Straight grip stock with steel musket buttplate & sling swivels. Left side of butt is stamped "NGH", referring to the National Guard of Hawaii. The Winchester book by George Madis on page 230 states that the Hawaii National Guard muskets were all in the 28,000 serial number range. UNATTACHED ACCESORIES: proper saber type bayonet measures 25" with cast brass handle. Buffalo Bill Historical Center letter dated 9-15-1988 and signed by Gael T. Oswalt. Letter states: "Musket, Received in the warehouse on October 30,1882, Shipped from the warehouse on November 22, 1882, With 399 other muskets and 95 carbines to order number 35499". CONDITION: metal finish has a faded brown appearance with scattered pitting. Stocks have an age darkened worn appearance showing numerous scratches & marks with small chips around the metal. Sound functioning action. The bore retains strong rifling showing spots of pitting. The bayonet shows handling marks on the brass handle with scattered pitting on the blade. (01-26806/DS).
