A very late early style 2nd model rifle featuring a thumb print dust cover on a screw attached rail. Blue & case colored finish. UNATTACHED ACCESORIES: an Olin corporation letter dated May 13, 1975, signed by T, E. Hall, Curator sates: "Winchester Model 1876, serial number 6983 listed as a rifle, octagon barrel, plain trigger, lid. Shipped February 21, 1879, no other information listed.". Rifle is also accompanied by a 3-piece cleaning rod in the stock compartment. CONDITION: over 50% blue fading to brown. Hammer and lever show traces of case colors. Sanded and refinished wood shows numerous scratches, marks, and small dents. Sound mechanics. Lightly pitted bore retains intact rifling. PROVENANCE: The Esteemed Norm Greenberg Collection.
