Lot 3027 WINCHESTER SECOND MODEL 1866 LEVER ACTION RIFLE.
Cal. 44 HRF. S# 16419. Bbl. 24" octagon with Henry and King's Patent markings. Blade front sight with graduated leaf rear sight. Full length mag. Second Model brass frame is flared at the forearm with gracefully curved Henry drop to the hammer area. Forearm and straight grip walnut stock with brass crescent trapdoor buttplate and sling swivels. Left inside of lower tang has apparent hand stamped "RV" followed by "W" and S# "16419". Mfg. in 1868. CONDITION: bbl. and mag. tube finish have faded to brown showing scattered light corrosion. Brass parts have acquired a pleasing dark patina. Stocks have added finish over heavily worn and weathered appearance showing dents and handling marks. Left side of stock has hand carved initials "FC". Sound action. Spring attachment screw on lower tang is an improper replacement. Dark pitted bore with largely intact rifling. PROVENANCE: The Esteemed Norm Greenberg Collection. (01-27751/DS).
