Cal. 41. S# 1287. Pistol is in standard configuration with blued 8” octagonal barrel, integral spring loaded magazine, fixed notch rear sight, pinched post front sight, custom silver plated scroll engraved brass frame, custom carved eagle ivory grips. Made to shoot self-contained “rocket ball” cartridges with powder & primer contained in conical ball. Manufactured between 1855-1857 after formation of Volcanic Arms Company from Smith & Wesson after they sold their interests to investors including Oliver Winchester. Barrel markings: “THE VOLCANIC ARMS CO. / NEW HAVEN CONN / PATENT FEB 14 1854” on top flat. Pistol is contained in custom green velvet lined compartmented casing. CONDITION: fine as refinished, barrel retains traces of blue finish, crisp barrel markings, darkened silver plated frame & custom scroll engraving applied after manufacture, patinaed carved eagle & liberty grips are well fit and fine, mechanically fine, sharp rifled bore.
