Lot 2628 INTERESTING LOT OF J.D. KNAP ITEMS INCLUDES
3 PRINTS & ORIGINAL PRINTING PLATE. 1) Although J.D. Knap preferred watercolor for most of his work he did make two sets of etchings, each with a limited edition of 100 signed proofs. Then the plates were destroyed. This etching is 1 of 100 entitled "Three Mallards" depicting birds in flight over marsh grass in black and white. Signed in pencil at lower right and with title at lower left with old gallery label conserved in pocket on back "JUST PUBLISHED" "ORIGINAL DRYPOINT" "by" "J.D. KNAP" "EDITION LIMITED TO 100 PROOFS". SIZE: overall 17" x 13-1/4", sight 10" x 8-1/2". CONDITION: very fine. Remounted in original frame, under glass. Old label on back foxed. 2) Original printing plate for limited edition print, "Indian Summer" (mallards) by J.D. Knap. The edition was limited to 260. SIZE: 19-1/2" x 15-1/2". CONDITION: fair to good; with some copper showing as well as some scattered rust. 3) Limited edition print. "Indian Summer" (mallards). Signed J.D. Knap in pencil on right and with "New York 1934" "46/260" at lower left above embossed male portrait. SIZE: overall 25-1/2" x 21-1/2", sight 19-1/2" x 16". CONDITION: very fine with old conserved original frame shows some water damage to lining on right side back, under glass. 4) J.D. Knap first proof hand colored print "Nor' Easter" (Canada geese). Signed J.D. Knap in pencil on right; lower left with engraved "New York 1934" then "First Proof" "Hand Colored" (in pencil). SIZE: overall 24-1/2" x 21", sight 19" x 15". CONDITION: very fine.
