Lot 2525 CASED RUGER No. 1 LYMAN 1 of 1000 COMMEMORATIVE
FALLING BLOCK RIFLE SET. Cal. 45-70 GOVT. S# 131-50697. Bbl. 28" "D" contour heavy target weight with banded swivel base plus target scope blocks at each end. Mfg. 1979 having Lyman 1878-1978 Centennial Centennial engraving on each side of the receiver plus additional numbering on bottom front of receiver: "L-78-0816X" (significance of "X" is unknown). Standard buttstock with red pad, Alex Henry forend and "warning marks" on barrel. Additionally, 100 were designated "1 of 100" with hand engraving by Robert Kain plus an over-run of about 40 that were without the accessories having plain receivers. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: original factory 2 piece brown box with foam padding and addition of Lyman number to include the "X"; model designation of "1-S". Large mahogany presentation case with green felt interior having shadow lined sections for rifle, scope and its accessories to presently include a Lyman 3 piece reloading die set, boxed Lyman 457193-C single cavity bullet mould and case key. Missing accessories: owner's manual in rifle box, cleaning rod, box with 20 rounds of nickel plated brass for reloading, mould block handles, bronze centennial medallion and paperback issue of the "Lyman Centennial Journal". Back side of presentation case has separated at the corners and inside panel under lid is not secure; it appears that proper gluing would restore the case. The medallion and special box of cartridge cases are the most difficult items to replace. All aspects of the 4 power Lyman Century target scope are near excellent and it includes its screw-in lens caps. CONDITION: a few very faint pinprick oxidation spots on barrel with balance of rifle being near excellent including bore. PROVENANCE: Estate of Groves Herrick. (25-5665/NW). MODERN. $1,000-2,000.
